W&W Preview: Panerai Reveals Its New Luminor Marina Carbotech 44mm
During an exclusive event at Neuchâtel’s trendy Palafitte Hotel, Watchonista got a sneak preview at some exciting new timepieces in the brand's lineup for Watches & Wonders in April.
With Watches & Wonders fast approaching, Panerai decided to unite the Swiss press to share some of the exciting timepieces it has in store for its clients this year. The vast majority of the timepieces will be kept under wraps until the April show, but there was one interesting watch that the brand was happy for us to share with you — the new Panerai Luminor Marina Carbotech™ 44mm.
Panerai Luminor Marina Carbotech™ 44mm
This new Luminor Marina marks the first timepiece in a new range of wristwatches that will be revealed throughout the year as the brand relaunches its iconic Luminor Marina collection.
The first thing you notice about this new timepiece is its stealthy Carbotech™ case. Panerai’s research and development team, the Laboratorio di Idee, loves nothing more than to experiment with different materials in innovative ways and the Panerai Luminor Marina Carbotech™ 44mm is testament to this.
The Carbotech™ Process
This high-performance composite material is tough and extremely light at only 96 grams. The case is molded using a process of superimposed layers of carbon fiber that are aligned in alternate directions. The material is then bound together with PEEK (polyether Ether Ketone) using just the right pressure and temperature. The result is a material that is not only highly-resistant to shocks and corrosion, but also aesthetically pleasing to the eye with its irregular texture, making each piece truly unique.
A Sandwich™ Dial And Blue Super-LumiNova®
The timepiece features Panerai’s signature sandwich dial that is enhanced with a blue Super-LumiNova that glows with a green luminescence in low light. This combination of an all-black timepiece with the pale blue Arabic numerals, hands and indexes continues onto the Sportech™ strap with a matching blue stitching.
The Panerai P.9010 Caliber
The watch is powered by the brand’s P.9010 caliber, an automatic movement with a three-day power reserve that is composed of two spring barrels and 200 components. It features a useful function that enables the user to rapidly set the hour hand, which in turn, automatically adjusts the date. This movement is a prominent member of the Panerai Luminor Marina family and was designed and developed in the Panerai Manufacture in Neuchâtel.
Just The Beginning
The Panerai Luminor Marina Carbotech™ 44mm is just a taste of some of the innovative new products Panerai has planned for 2020 so stay tuned for more.
This new reference PAM1661 has a retail price of $12,800.
