Video: Inside A Once-In-A-Lifetime Experience With Panerai x Mike Horn
The partnership between Panerai and Mike Horn, which has lasted for almost 20 years, is much more than a classical ambassadorship. Instead, it is a close relationship that aims to raise global awareness about climate change while promoting the core values of both Panerai and Mike Horn. Earlier this year, I attended a Panerai experience in the Swiss Alps organized by the South African-born Swiss professional explorer and adventurer Mike Horn. The red wire of the adventure was to push you to your limits. And that was exactly what it did. I was driven to my limit while mountain biking for at least 4 hours, leaping from rock ledges, plunging down natural slides, and floating downstream in the Swiss Verbier – it was amazing.
“When we decided to craft this event together with Jean-Marc, we wanted to share some of my adventures with the Panerai clients. To be able to have a watch like a medal, something you have to work for and deserve to wear because you have gone through a certain experience that nobody else has gone through,” explained Mike Horn about the inspiration for the event.

At the end of the day that was rich in emotions and physical effort, we sat down with the CEO of Panerai Jean-Marc Pontroué and Mike Horn to talk about their collaboration, the idea of the experience, the pain we had just gone through, and, of course, about the new collaborative watch.
The New Panerai Submersible Chrono Flyback Mike Horn Edition
This year, Panerai continues its partnership with Mike Horn, centering around the creation of a concept watch that Mike Horn can wear on his expeditions, even in the toughest conditions. Thus, the new Submersible Chrono Flyback Mike Horn Edition (PAM01291) was developed as an indispensable tool for daring explorers on land or sea.
“Mike is the idea-provider. He gives us a playground for the watch creation, and we give him a solution that accompanies him in the toughest condition. From trekking to the North Pole in the unremitting darkness of winter to summiting some of the world’s highest and most challenging peaks without supplemental oxygen,” commented Jean-Marc Pontroué.
A New Complication For The Mike Horn Edition
The new Submersible Chrono Flyback Mike Horn Edition (PAM01291) is limited to 500 pieces and powered by the P.9100 movement, the first automatic movement with chronograph functions created by Panerai. The movement features the flyback function, an advanced complication that allows the chronograph to reset and restart with one press of the pusher at eight o’clock, along with a three-day power reserve.
The 47mm brushed titanium case, which is both lightweight and highly resistant to saltwater corrosion, gives the timepiece a sleek and industrial look. A hard-wearing black matte ceramic ring within the unidirectional bezel also provides a highly legible tool for the measurement of immersion time. Meanwhile, the screw-down chronograph pushers deliver a superior degree of water resistance up to 300m.
Finally, keen eyes will notice that the applied white indices on the dial and the vivid yellow of the central chronograph hand and accents punctuate the dark blue dial rather elegantly. This exact color combination recalls a previous model inspired by Horn, the Panerai Luminor Submersible 1950 Pole 2 Pole Limited Edition (PAM00719) from 2016.
